Maggie Kline, MFT is a senior Somatic Experiencing Instructor for the Foundation of Human Enrichment. She is the co-author with Dr. Peter Levine of It Won’t Hurt Forever—Guiding Your Child Through Trauma (Mothering Magazine, Jan/Feb 2002) and Trauma through a Child’s Eyes—Awakening The Ordinary Miracle of Healing (North Atlantic, Berkeley, 2007).

Presenter: Catherine Auman, MFT,

Catherine Auman, MFT, has been working in the psychology field for 25 years. She has studied spirituality for 30 years. In 2000 she took a one year sabbatical spending time in an ashram in India about which she is presently writing a book. Catherine Auman has been on the faculty of JFK University in Oakland, California.

Presenter: Irene Harwood, MFT, LCSW, PhD, Psy.D, CGP, FAGPA

Dr.Irene Harwood, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA. She is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in her private practice in Westwood. Dr. Harwood presently serves as the President of the Group Psychotherapy Association of Southern California (GPASC). She is the author of numerous publications and she has been the keynote speaker for many conferences though out the United States, as well as abroad.

Presenter: Marvin N. Kaphan, LCSW, CGP

Marvin N. Kaphan, LCSW is the author of numerous publications, the recipient of many awards in the field of Clinical Social Work and has a full time private practice in the San Fernando valley where he maintains 6 on-going psychotherapy groups. Marvin Kaphan has studied at Princeton, Columbia and Rutgers University. He has taught and demonstrated group therapy extensively throughout the United States and Canada.

Presenter: Lillian Freeman, LCSW

Lillian Freeman, LCSW has been a psychotherapist in private practice in West LA for the past 30 years. She is on the faculty of Ryokan College where she teaches Human Development. Ms. Freeman has completed a certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis. She has conducted trainings in Family Therapy and Play Therapy throughout California.

Topic: From Danger to Opportunity: Treating the Cancer Patient in Psychotherapy

Ronnie Kaye, MFT, has a private psychotherapy practice in Marina del Rey.

Twice a cancer survivor, Ronnie Kaye is the author of the book, Spinning Straw Into Gold: Your Emotional Recovery From Breast Cancer (Simon & Schuster.) She leads groups and workshops for survivors and professionals and lectures internationally. In recognition of her work in this area, she has been the recipient of The American Cancer Society Quality of Life Award. Ronnie Kay is on the faculty of the UCLA School of Medicine where she teaches medical students the human dimension of doctoring and has been awarded a Certificate of Distinction in Medical Education. She is presently working toward her PsyD in Psychoanalysis at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles.

Presenter: Larry Heller, PhD

Larry Heller, PhD, has been a body-centered therapist for over 25 years. He teaches seminars regularly in the United States, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland. Larry was the President and Director of Training for the Gestalt Institute of Denver. He specializes in the interplay of trauma and character structure and is currently writing a book on this subject. Larry has Co-authored a book entitled, Crash Course: A Self Healing Guide to Auto Accident Trauma and Recovery.

David Jensen, JD will provide us with his knowledge and expertise and humor as he navigates for us the legal and ethical mandates and updated laws we need to understand to practice as Marriage and Family Therapists in 2008 in California. This workshop is offered for licensed therapists and fulfills the MFT licensing renewal requirements.

Presenter: Joshua Golden, MD.

Joshua Golden, MD is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He was the founder and co-director of the UCLA Human Sexuality Training Program at UCLA from 1975 until 1993. He retired from the private practice of psychiatry, specializing in sexual, marital and family therapies in July, 2007.

Topic: Substance Use and Abuse: The continuum of consciousness alteration and the nature of addiction.

Presenter: Dr. William Flaxman, PhD .

William Flaxman, PhD, MFT was the director of clinical services and intern training for 13 years at 2 sliding scale counseling centers in Los Angeles. He is the past president of the Group Psychotherapy Association of Southern California and serves as the GPASC Chair of Research, Education and Training. Dr. Flaxman has a private practice in Santa Monica. He is the author of “Substance Use as a Function of Mood-Related Consciousness Alteration”. Bill also serves as a Board member of the Blackfeet Buffalo Horse Coalition, a Native American non-profit can community (horse therapy) ranch and training organization in Montana.
