FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to be a CAMFT member (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) to join the L.A. Chapter?
Clinical and Student/Intern members are required to be members of CAMFT.
Associate and Undergraduate students do not.
What is the difference between CAMFT and LACAMFT?
CAMFT is the California state organization representing Marriage and Family Therapists.
LACAMFT is a local (Los Angeles) chapter of CAMFT and is a separate organization which offers networking opportunities and more personal contact with those in your geographic area. Operating funds are entirely separate. You can participate in many of our activities and workshops if you are not a member, but to receive all the benefits of membership, you will need to join LACAMFT.
I’m a MFT and new to the area, how will LACAMFT benefit me?
LACAMFT offers opportunities to network, develop personal and professional relationships with other clinicians, get referrals and support. It provides a community where people who are interested in the same field can come together to exchange ideas and information. LACAMFT offers a variety of avenues for people to be involved and to gain further education.
Do you offer Continuing Education Units?
Yes. Our general membership meetings usually include a speaker. CEU's are usually provided at minimal or no cost to members. If you are collecting hours toward licensure, the CEU certificate can be counted toward your training or workshop hours.
How many CEUs are required to renew my license?
You are required to collect 36 hours of Continuing Education every two years to renew your license.
I’m a licensed clinician, do you offer client referrals?
Yes. We have a referral line that is run by volunteers. If you are an LACAMFT member you are automatically added to our directory which is the resource from which client referrals are given. The Referral Line Coordinator has your practice information. Contact our current Referral Line Coordinator at (323)964-3200. If you are Licensed or a Registered Intern you may also sign up to be on our Clinical Registry so the public can find you on-line!

I’m a student or intern, how does joining LACAMFT benefit me?
LACAMFT offers a strong support network for students and interns. Our 3000 club offers monthly or bi-monthly meetings. You may also attend our general membership meetings and receive our newsletter and directory. All venues provide a forum for networking, finding job opportunities and connecting to mentors!
What is the 3000 club and how do I sign up?
The 3000 club is designed to meet the needs of students and interns. We currently have a Toastmaster's Club which offers opportunities for members to practice their public speaking skills and gain support. The club also offers further education through speakers and mentors who attend the 3000 club meetings. You can call the Chair of the 3000 club Pat Healy, MFT at 310 475-9101 or email: Phealymft@aol.com for further information. Our newsletter also announces when and where the club meets.
