This presentation will define experiential interventions that effectively help couples recovering from addiction and codependency move out of trauma, fear and mistrust and back to love and connection. The issues of unresolved betrayal, sexual difficulties, and chronic underlying resentment are approached with a daily practice of mindful meditation, boundary setting, fair fighting techniques and collaborative future goal setting. With the advent of study of the neurobiology of the brain, attachment theory, and mindful meditation, we are more equipped than ever before to help couples in recovery sustain long-term, robust relationships where relapse is diminished and secure attachment can grow.
Beverly Berg, MFT, PhD has worked in the field of mental health and chemical dependency with children and adults in a psychotherapy practice since 1982. Her work is founded on the integration of psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being using somatic techniques, family systems theory, the 12 Step model, Indirect Hypnosis, the neurobiology of the brain and attachment theory.
