Pandemic Loss — The Surreal World of Grief:
How It’s Impacting Our Clients and Our Own Grief
Debi Jenkins Frankle, LMFT
Debi Jenkins Frankle, LMFT, will provide a framework for understanding the multi-layered nature of pandemic- related loss, the agony of anticipatory grief, and the invalidation of disenfranchised losses. She will explore the need to re-examine how we define loss, recognize grief, deal with the inability to participate in traditional mourning rituals, and support our clients while experiencing our own grief. This presentation will help clinicians identify the seven areas of our clients’ lives that are impacted by grief: Cognitive, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social, Family, and Work. Recognizing specifically how grief can show up, we can begin to name and normalize the experience for our clients. Join us to learn how to best help our clients and ourselves regain our footing in the surreal world of pandemic loss.
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and understand the grief, mourning, loss, and trauma many people are experiencing during the current pandemic
- Identify and work with the symptoms and signs of grief in seven areas of functioning: Cognitive, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social, Family, and Work.
Debi Jenkins Frankle, LMFT, is an expert in the field of grief, working for over 25 years with clients suffering from lifetimes of loss. She and husband, Mark Frankle, LMFT, are the co-founders of the Calabasas 
Counseling and Grief Recovery Center. Debi is the founder of Private Practice Grief Workshops and Trainings for Mental Health Professionals, as well as the Private Practice Grief therapists FB group. She has provided Pandemic Loss and Grief trainings to executives, and was a national trainer for The Grief Recovery Institute. She is a past president of San Fernando Valley chapter of CAMFT, a past committee co-chair of the Crisis Response Network for SFV-CAMFT, and is a member of the Association for Death Education (ADEC).
