LA-CAMFT Supervision CE Workshop:
Best Practices for Multicultural Supervision

Dr. Theo Burnes, Ph.D., LPCC

This interactive six-hour training provides background knowledge and context for clinical supervision and showcases a diversity of evidence-based approaches to conduct multiculturally competent supervision. Beginning with a review of current literature in clinical supervision, this workshop aims to provide the information necessary in assisting the supervisor to both support their trainees’ development and to maintain ethical client care. Specifically, this training addresses supervisory interventions from a multicultural framework in clinical supervision to create lasting meaning and impact across the professional lifespan of the mental health trainee and beyond. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify two concrete ways to conceptualize a trainee's knowledge, attitudes, and skills using a culture-centered framework.
  2. Compare and contrast six different models of culture-centered supervision.
  3. Identify and define at least two evidence-based interventions in multicultural supervision.
  4. Apply at least one culture-centered model of clinical supervision in their continuing development as clinical supervisors of mental health trainees.
  5. Identify two concrete strategies for using the Competency Benchmarks in clinical supervision.
