Luanne Hernandez moved down to Southern California after receiving her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University in 2009.  Luanne's interest in cultural competency was piqued during her time as an undergraduate at Stanford University.  At Stanford, she took every opportunity to attend classes, groups, and events on cultural competency and history in race, ethnicity, culture, and sexual orientation, even working to build cultural awareness and sensitivity in the residential education setting and studying racial and ethnic development during a two week intensive course with Theresa LaFrombroise, a leading researcher on education in the Native American population. Shortly after moving down to Southern California, Luanne was offered a position as a Social Worker and later, as the sole Mental Health Provider, at Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency.  Due to the agency’s diverse population and strong ties with the LGBT community in Los Angeles, Luanne's background and passion for cultural competency and social justice made her an asset to the already diverse staff at Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency. Luanne currently specializes in working with families who have adopted through the foster care system.  She has completed her MFT Intern hours and is awaiting review of her application and studying for her licensing exams.
