Why Drumming?
Drumming is one of the most primitive forms of music making, and the drum circle, an ancient form of community gathering, has been a part of most, if not all, civilizations throughout the ages and across the globe. It has been used in a myriad of forms for ceremonial purposes, celebration, communication, and healing. OM Rhythm Therapy, a modality developed by Ossie, uses various approaches to create rhythmic healing, including components of traditional drum circles, group therapy, and mindfulness.
The drum circle is enjoying a rebirth in western society, and is being experienced by people from all walks of life. Research has shown that group drumming has significant health benefits, including boosting the immune system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and promoting relaxation. So join us in this experiential workshop and explore the benefits of the drum circle for yourself.
Please dress comfortably; leave your rings and bracelets at home.
Workshop Agenda: Ossie will lead us on a journey that will include how to form a drum circle, finding the right instruments, and learning some basic rhythms that can be played in any community drum circle.
OMRT promotes healing, relaxation, entrancement and emotional well-being, and the great thing about this form of drumming is that you don’t need any experience. Even people who say they have no rhythm (feel your pulse - that’s your rhythm) can attain health.
