Is Your Psychotherapy LGBT-Friendly or LGBT-Affirmative?

Providing LGBT-Affirmative Psychotherapy and Support to LGBT Clients
and Their Relatives, Family Members, Friends and Co-Workers

Presented by: Lauren Costine, Ph.D.

Living and growing up LGBT in a world that negates, devalues and demonizes same-sex love and gender variance is very traumatizing to the LGBT person’s sense of self. To recover from the trauma of growing up in a heterosexist world and to get the most out of their life, LGBT people, and their support systems, need LGBT- Affirmative Psychotherapy. This approach enables LGBT clients to heal & begin to feel an authentic sense of self- love, confidence, empowerment and joy by addressing & deconstructing any and all negative myths & messages about LGBT people, actively affirming that not only is there nothing inherently wrong with being LGBT but that these sexual orientations and gender identities are a beautiful & special way to be in the world. Learn what you can do to provide LGBT Affirmative Psychotherapy and support to LGBT clients and their relatives, family members, friends and co-workers and why LGBT-friendly psychotherapy is not enough.

Lauren Costine, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, educator, author, activist & founding member of The LGBT Specialization in Clinical Psychology at Antioch where she still teaches, has dedicated herself to the field of LGBT-Affirmative Psychotherapy & is a pioneer in Lesbian-Affirmative Therapy. In her Beverly Hills practice she works with individuals & couples specializing in LGB-Affirmative Psychotherapy, Addictions & Depth Psychology.
